How can I help you Chicago?

Oh there’s still so much wrong with the employment opportunities and even how to find them in Chicago. I know a lot of good people who just aren’t finding a decent job. I don’t blame the politicians or anyone really. It’s just not working out. I personally approved over 400 jobs last week on my Linked In group site and that’s been consistent.

How many other new jobs are posted in Chicago? What are the expectations of the hiring companies? And how long does the whole process of even getting an interview take? Where’s the bottleneck and what are the expectations of the employers? Who even gets a chance?

If the bottleneck is due to the HR process how can we help? Do we organize a way to qualify people and then get companies interested in giving back sponsor that? If that’s the case, then I’ll work on it. I know of a company that’s focused on getting people back to work – Microtrain. It’s not just for tech types and there is little to no cost to work with them.

And then there’s still the issue in how people are being treated in the work environment. To name a few:
• Bullying
• Harassment
• Defamation
• Framing
• Lack of communication
• Blind sighting
• Leveraging
• Tattle tailing
• Micro managing
• Other – just plain old indignities

What have we come to? Is this our new norm? I think that going through the hiring process is so painful, even if you are under employed you stick with an awful environment. If you are the one being harassed what does that do to you personally in the long run? Do the people who behave this way ever feel bad about it? Is this behavior our new definition of leadership?

I think we all need to collectively think about how we behave, how it affects others and more importantly, how we can help. We really need to help each other out when presented the opportunity to do so. I know a whole lot of good people who are helping and there’s a whole lot more needed. Join us in helping Chicago become a better place for all of us.

All the best to each and every one of you!

From Like to Love

What is it that takes us from like to love……

People are appreciative of our efforts– but are we giving them the right things?

Recently I paid a company a $2000 initial investment to design a website and then drive traffic to that site. We spent a lot of time talking about what would be delivered and how it would work, and how we’d share revenue. It was supposed to be a win-win. A few weeks later I was given access to a just another wordpress blogsite with my logo on it.

“Here’s your website – I delivered what you asked for and by the way you better figure out how to configure wordpress to do all the things you asked for, because I’m not going to help you.” Hmmmm….hard to see the benefit in that even though I have a pretty darn positive attitude. When I asked for my money back – I didn’t get a direct response but I heard through one of the employees that the business owner said he spent it, so he couldn’t return it. Darn, I EARNED that money.

I asked if the company could in kind, offer something else of value, say driving traffic to a different site. No response. And the very same employee told me that what I had been told the company could offer –well they don’t really do that anyway. But, they are still out there and they are still selling it. And now even though my belief in Karma won’t allow me to name the company publicly – could I ever allow anyone I care about to do business with them?  I liked those people allot when we talked about how we could work together.

It could have gone from “like” to “love” if we continued to work things through until we could both feel good.

The bottom line and what people are looking for when they pay you money– is the delivery of what they asked you for in the first place and what you said you could do.

The result: they just might like you.

And if you make it a point to get to know the people who give you money, understand their needs, and give them a gift – then they might go from liking you, to loving you. I don’t know about you, but you just can’t love me too much. I don’t think you can over love. Heck I’ll even go so far as to say, I’m a glutton for love.

Linked N Chicago (LiNC) is a social business community. We care about each other. We never forget who we are and our core values. We deliver what we say we can deliver. I’m proud to be proud. And I’d like everyone to think about, what it would take to go from like to love in all that we do. I don’t think you can go wrong when you’re feeling something wonderful like that!
